A Gentle, Rapid Approach to Overcoming ARFID

by ARFID Tips

For those with Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) and Selective Eating Disorder (SED), food aversions or limitations can lead to a range of day-to-day challenges. There are a handful of therapies out there, many of which involve gradual food exposure or food chaining, which can feel daunting, stressful and a lot to take on all at once. But, I do things differently.

My therapy approach offers a unique alternative to combating ARFID and SED. Instead of focusing on direct food exposure, I use a gentle therapy method that addresses the root cause of food related anxiety and provides noticeable results quickly, in a single session.

Benefits My Non-Exposure ARFID Therapy

● Immediate Impact – My clients often see results within a single session, which means they can experience relief from their anxieties without having to undergo months of therapy. For individuals looking for a quick and effective solution, this approach provides an alternative to traditional methods.

● Reduces Anxiety – As there’s no requirement to interact with feared foods, my ARFID therapy avoids the anxiety that often accompanies food exposure. This approach ensures ARFID and SED sufferers feel safe and supported during therapy, without confronting distressing triggers directly.

● Addresses Root Causes – By focusing on unconscious factors and emotional responses to food, this approach works from the inside out, allowing for meaningful change in a way that’s supportive and compassionate. Rather than slowly training clients to eat new foods, my goal is to release the underlying fears, resetting the part of the brain that sees food as a threat.

● Simple Approach – My ARFID and SED therapy isn’t complex or confusing, and it doesn’t require too much of you. I often say that if you can listen to me, you can do this therapy, and that really is the case. It’s suitable for ages 10 and up.

Is My ARFID and SED Therapy Right for You?

Everyone’s experience with ARFID and SED is unique, and choosing the right therapy is essential. If you have tried traditional exposure and chaining methods, and they’ve not worked, my approach offers an effective and gentle option. I work with you to regain control over your relationship with food, without forcing you to face your fears head on.

If you’re ready to explore a different approach to overcoming ARFID and SED, I’m here to help you take that step, but in a way that respects your unique needs, experiences and food challenges. Get in touch to find out more.
